Surface EMG vs. High-Density EMG: Tradeoff Between Performance and Usability for Head Orientation Prediction in VR Application

چکیده
Head orientation prediction is one of the solutions to reduce end-to-end latency on Virtual Reality (VR) systems and important since it can alleviate negative effects like motion sickness. This study compared head models from two different electromyography (EMG) systems: surface EMG (sEMG) High-Density (HD-EMG). The deep learning method was used train model, results showed that model with input pre-processed sEMG + IMU sensor outperformed HD-EMG sensor. However, decreasing performance compensated by its comfort ease use electrode. tradeoff between usability should be a consideration for users who want choose purposes. Comparison state-of-the-art methods proved sEMG-based offers better in predictions when change their directions, which quantified calculating dt peaks. In other words, our suitable VR applications, require user perform high-intensity or abrupt movements, such as FPS games exercise/sports games.

A thin, flexible multielectrode grid for high-density surface EMG.
Although the value of high-density surface electromyography (sEMG) has already been proven in fundamental research and for specific diagnostic questions, there is as yet no broad clinical application. This is partly due to limitations of construction principles and application techniques of conventional electrode array systems. We developed a thin, highly flexible, two-dimensional multielectrod...

The motor unit action potentials (MUAPs) sum to produce a spatial distribution of voltage on the skin surface above the muscle. This time varying “electrical image” may be acquired with an electrode grid that provides two dimensional (2D) sampling in space. The time evolution of the resulting “image” may be tracked by sampling in time. This methodology is referred to as High Density EMG (HD-EMG...
متن کاملSummary -- Probability Density Function for Surface Emg
My original query some time ago – one computer crash ago was about the amplitude probability density function (pdf) of surface EMG data (from which we have subtracted the mean value). That is, if one plots the amplitude of the rectified EMG in an histogram, what does it look like? The common assumption is that we get a (one-sided) Gaussian pdf for stationary data. This is generally so. However,...

‘‘The course of a movement is nothing else but a projection to the outside of a pattern of excitation taking place in a corresponding setting in the central nervous system‘‘. This citation of Hess (1954, according to Waterland, 1968) has caught my attention since the first day of my studies of the neuro-musculo-skeletal system in kinesiological tasks. Pursuing a bioengineering approach and inve...
متن کاملHigh-Density EMG Techniques in Neuromuscular Studies
We would like to present the usability of High-Density surface EMG (HD-sEMG) recording for measurement of neuromuscular activities. In this mini-symposium, how to use HD-sEMG recording for physiological and morphological measurements will be shown. Particularly, significance of “dry” conditions will be mentioned.
